Setting up your L2TP/IPsec VPN under Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

Setting up PublicVPN access under Android 2.3.x iis simple. The following instructions go step–by–step through the creation process.

System Requirements

Before setting up the VPN, be sure your installation is up–to–date.

Add a new VPN connection

First, open the Settings app and touch “Wireless & networks.”

Next, touch on ”VPN settings.”

Touch “Add VPN”

Touch on ”Add L2TP/IPsec PSK VPN.”

Set the VPN Properties

Touch on “VPN name.”

In the popup, enter “PublicVPN” and touch “OK”

Next, touch on “Set VPN server.”

Type “gateway.publicvpn.net” and touch “OK”

Touch “Set IPsec pre-shared key”

In the dialog box, type 'publicvpn.net' without the quotes. Then click “OK”

Now you have all the settings you need.

Touch your “Back” button to save the new VPN settings. When you touch back, you may be prompted for a credential storage password. Type whatever password you'd like and click “OK”.

Connecting to the VPN

To connect to the VPN, touch “PublicVPN”. Touch it now.

The first time you connect you'll need to enter your PublicVPN username and password. Check “Remember username” and you won’t have to keep entering your username.

Now when you need to connect to PublicVPN, touch on the VPN in settings, click “Connect”, and enter your VPN password.
